Press Releases
THE MICHAEL KOOLIDGE SHOW IS #1 IN ITS TIME SLOT FOR ROCKFORD TALK SHOWS - JULY 2010 For Immediate Release from The Michael Koolidge Show (www.koolidge.com) Contact: Carol Anderson at radio@koolidge.com or 815-561-7130 THE MICHAEL KOOLIDGE SHOW IS #1 IN ITS TIME SLOT FOR ROCKFORD TALK SHOWS Rockford, IL – The 2010 Nielsen ratings book is official, and The Michael Koolidge Show (www.koolidge.com) is number one in its time slot, beating all other Rockford-based talk shows in every key demographic. “I’ve been doing this gig for four straight years now and while we always knew we had a strong online presence, this is the first actual scientific measurement of my audience in a rated radio market," says Koolidge. "That I have an audience beyond my wife and mom is encouraging. That I’m #1 is, well, shocking, to be honest -- but I’ll take it! In all seriousness, my early affiliates and advertisers have taken a giant leap of faith with this show over the years, and I'd like to think this helps justify their decision.” According to Nielsen’s most recent radio ratings book, The Michael Koolidge Show (TMKS), airing on 1440 WROK from 10-11am every Tuesday through Friday, beats Rockford’s WNTA 10-11am block in every key demographic breakdown, including all people 18+ (3.8 share vs. WNTA’s 3.2 share), men 25-54 (3.0 to 2.4), men 55+ (7.3 to 5.8) and women 35-64 (2.8 to 2.4). This is the first ratings book released since WROK added The Michael Koolidge Show to its daily lineup in January of 2010. Last year, WROK beat WNTA in all hours of the day except for the 10 to 11am time slot. WROK Program Director Scot Bertram: "We couldn't be happier with both the quality of the show on a daily basis and the results we've seen so far. In just six months, 'The Michael Koolidge Show' already has met the initial goal Michael and I set for the program -- winning its time slot. I guess it's time to set the bar even higher!" Recent guests on the show include Illinois Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Alexi Giannoulious (D), State Senator and candidate for Illinois Governor Bill Brady (R), Former Fox news host Rita Cosby and internet giant Andrew Breitbart. This past Spring TMKS brought the show to Arizona for the second year in a row for Cubs and White Sox Spring Training, where he spoke with skippers Lou Piniella and Ozzie Guillen, as well as Chicago hurlers Ryan Dempster and Mark Beurle. The Michael Koolidge Show began on News/Talk 1060 WRHL out of Rochelle/North Central Illinois in the Spring of 2006, where it still airs at 5PM every weeknight. After independent syndication it was picked up on 1360 WLBK out of DeKalb/Western Chicagoland in January of 2008 (6PM most weeknights), and two years later added 1440 WROK (10AM Tuesday through Friday) in Illinois’s second largest radio market after Chicago, Rockford. TMKS has a large online presence, streaming 21 separate hours a week in addition to over 200 weekly downloadable podcasts. Koolidge also regularly fills in as a guest host on AM 560 WIND's The Guy Benson Show in Chicago. On alternating weeks, TMKS talks with a U.S. service-member on the ground in either Afghanistan or Iraq, and has spoken with an overseas service-member on the air at least twice a month every month since September of 2006. Koolidge himself served six years on active duty in the U.S. Army, including a year (2002-2003) in Kuwait and Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Michael Koolidge Show interviews Denny Hastert - October 2007 For Immediate Release from The Michael Koolidge Show (www.koolidge.com) DENNY HASTERT ON THE MICHAEL KOOLIDGE SHOW
Some excerpts from the interview: 5:59: “We don't need...even though we have some differences with [Turkey]...to upset the apple cart, to lose our bases there, and put our men and women who are in the Middle East in jeopardy, and that's exactly what this does. This is a political issue. Its a political hot poker in the eye of the Administration..." 7:16: "We don't need another situation like a Syria or Iran on the border of Iraq..." 7:52: "I had the Speaker of the Armenian House come to visit me. We had a long talk about this issue. This is not a big issue in Armenia. Its a big issue here, where people keep this thing constantly riled up, whether you happen to be a Greek and don't like the Turks, or you happen to be an Armenian and don't like the Turks. Its a way that people raise money here." 10:21: "The Turkish Border is something that we cannot have destabilized. You know, its an interesting time...when Osama Bin Laden is criticizing Al Qaeda cause they're not getting the job done, it means that WE are getting OUR job done, and if we want to help [Al Qeada], help them emotionally, and give them a lift, destabilize what we [the U.S.] is able to do, then this Turkey resolution does exactly that." 11:05: "I think Speaker Pelosi expressed very well, that this is an important issue to her, probably politically, and there's another political issue, and that is to hurt the Administration. So, I don't think she's accepting common sense. We've back-channeled that (as a former Speaker, giving Pelosi advice NOT to do this), they understand that, they know it very well, her aides know what we've done....she's going to do what she wants to do. And she has her own agenda. Just like meeting with the head of Syria and other places, she has an agenda." 12:25: "What I tried to do...I tried to bring the Turks and Armenians together...and they're doing some of that, and that's good between those two countries. It's the people back here who want to keep these thing stirred up, and that's the tragedy of it." He did not indicate whether he will be remaining or resigning as U.S. representative from the IL-14th congressional district. The Michael Koolidge Show is the first and only daily radio talk show in the nation hosted by a young veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Michael talks every Thursday with an active duty U.S. servicemember serving in Iraq, and has done so every week since early September of 2006. WRHL programming director Greg Saunders: “In the short time that The Michael Koolidge Show has been on the air, we’ve found that he has tremendous appeal to our listeners. He’s funny and brings a unique perspective to our airwaves. Audio broadcasting is evolving at breakneck speed, and with on-line streaming, podcasting, and the upcoming release of the I-phone, Michael’s on top of it all, constantly thinking of ways of new ways to make great radio. We’re lucky to have him.”
Michael Koolidge: “I treat the show as if I were on a stage for two hours every day, bringing a completely new show to the audience. Some of the audience pops in for 15 minutes, some stay the whole two hours. We have politicians, sports and media figures, business experts --as long as they have something interesting to say, they’re welcome on my show. My mission is the same every day: to make great radio and to keep listeners listening, and my secret is that my guests are always more interesting than me. Don’t tell anyone.”

U.S. Army soldier Andrew Morton has agreed to a regular appearance on The Michael Koolidge Show heard on News/Talk 1060 WRHL and www.koolidge.com in a re-occurring segment, “Almost-live from Baghdad,” calling from Baghdad, Iraq every Thursday. The first two interviews, the first of which was recorded and aired on September 11, 2006, are up at www.koolidge.com under the “Audio Archives” link as part of the Special TMKS September 11th broadcast. * "The Michael Koolidge Show," hosted by Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran Michael Koolidge, airs daily on News/Talk 1060AM WRHL from 3-5 p.m. U.S. CENTRAL and is the only daily radio talk show in the nation hosted by a young veteran of this current war, and it's broadcast from right here in Rochelle. * Quote from Michael Koolidge: “I’m excited. I know that other radio shows have soldiers on from Iraq, but I don’t think it happens as frequently as it should. To my knowledge, we are the only daily radio show in the country that will have an extended segment directly from a soldier in Iraq with his boots on the ground, every single week. Unless Andrew occasionally calls us from a helicopter, in which case his boots will be in the air. But he’ll still be in Iraq.” * Since the Spring of 2006, Michael Koolidge has brought his unique brand of humor and interviewing style to the airwaves and has amassed a substantial list of big-name guests, including interviews with Speaker of the House Denny Hastert, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, U.S. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona, Congressman Don Manzullo, Illinois Education Association President Ken Swanson, Illinois GOP Chairman Andy McKenna, Time Magazine writer and author Po Bronson, Eagle Forum’s Phyllis Schlaffly, John Shank and Terese Almquist from the Rochelle News Leader, James Taranto and Daniel Henninger from the Wall Street Journal, Clarence Page and George Papajohn of the Chicago Tribune, Lynn Sweet, Steve Huntley and Doug Elfman of the Chicago Sun-Times, and Damian Kulash from the nationally known Chicago band OK Go.
